Gala, the Russian Wife of Salvador Dali

Gala, the Russian Wife of Salvador Dali

On Saturday, September 25 Russian Heritage will present the engaging story of Gala, the Russian wife of Salvador Dali.

Gala was born in 1894 in Russia and lived there until she went to Switzerland in 1913. In 1917 she married the Surrealist poet Paul Eluard. She met Salvador Dali in 1929, and they married in 1934.

The Russian Heritage meeting will begin at 4pm in the Russian American Club at 2920 Beach Boulevard, Gulfport, FL 33707. The program will feature a video on the early life of Gala followed by a power point presentation by Pat Gorman, a featured docent at the Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida. She will discuss Gala’s relationship as Dali’s muse and model.

A supper will be served following the program. Tickets for the program and the meal are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Please RSVP to (727)-867-6013 if you are planning to come.

In the spring we are planning to visit the new Dali museum, which is scheduled to open in January 2011. Learning about Gala now will make our visit to the new Dali museum with docent Pat Gorman even more interesting.

The meeting will also give you a chance to hear from some members who were in Russia this past summer.
